Today, we are truly capable of being mini celebrities in our own right. Social media networks act as our full-time publicists, fashion bloggers work as our full time stylists and an array of filters are sure to enhance the shiny veneer of it all.
Even still, we often feel our best will never be better than the perfectly manicured lives of those we follow.
I am going to tell y’all a little secret…lean in close now.
Jesus didn’t hang out with the “cool” kids, and neither did the ones who followed Him. It was quite the opposite. They were the raw, messy and rejected by many. They dared to defy the lines of comfort.
When we choose “cool” as our prize we walk an already well-worn path. There is safety in this, but there is also sacrifice. Our darkest days come when we allow comparison to make us feel hollow. Our insecurities are magnified when we judge only the surface as the highest measure of worth.
What if you knew your story would play a significant role in changing the trajectory of those around you with a slight shift of focus? Would you care less about being “cool” to take the risk to carve out another path?
The things of greatest value are not measured by the pre-written standards of this world. It’s the unassuming heroes who hold true to their convictions who choose to create the new standard.
You only get one shot at this thing. So go ahead, throw “cool” out with comparison. Start a new story on a less traveled path. One day, that story will be so much more fun to tell.
